This executive order allows government funding for impoverished areas that have been overlooked by their community. In an effort to revitalize these areas, the federal government will help these areas bring back economic growth and give businesses much needed financial help through outside investors. This order goes along with the previous tax cut law known as the opportunity zones, created to help low income neighborhoods. Under the opportunity zone program, investors can receive capital-gains tax breaks if they invest in distressed areas that were certified by the Treasury Department. There are a lot of rules and regulations still to be ironed out, with the second set of rules to be coming out this year. For more information click here.
